Watering the lawn deeply encourages roots to grow deeper. This makes the grass more durable. Instead of frequent surface watering, giving less frequent but more water is the ideal irrigation method for lawns. A well-designed irrigation system, neatly cut, lush green grass and natural borders created by advanced hedge plants create a canvas in your garden where textures and colors are displayed.
To develop an effective lawn irrigation system, sprinkler heads are installed that rise to the soil surface with the pressure of water using underground piping. When sprinkler irrigation begins, it rises from the soil and covers the area in rain-like droplets. The best watering time is early in the morning (usually between 6 and 10 am). This helps the grass dry out during the day and prevents fungal diseases from occurring. Avoid watering in the late afternoon as this can cause the water to evaporate quickly.
After watering is finished, the sprinklers retract into their sockets in the ground, allowing you to mow and use your garden as normal.
Regular lawn watering is also important in heavy use areas, allowing lawns to recover even in dry weather. For areas with only shallow soil depth, regular watering of the lawn tissue is vital as just a few days of hot, dry weather will deplete the lawn's water reserves.
